(from "Heart's Desire " edited by Elizabeth Benson

Can I please borrow your tongue?
I need to talk to you
Listen to me when I speak my mind
And show some compassion as I translate my life

Ring around the roses and other nursery rhymes
I am learning to deliver your plastic smile
Like a scare crow standing in midst of corn fields
I stand alone to watch birds play and sing

Can I please borrow your tongue?
I need to talk to you
Your tongue fears my teeth and saliva laden mouth
The digested harmful waste
Bombs and fatal dreams

Stand by my side like a scare crow in midst of a corn field
Speak to me as I speak to you
